Solar dehydrating Borage plants

I’ve been thinking about how to dehydrate the Borage plants for eventual salve making.  I wanted to be as environmentally conscious and use our Sun for the dehydrating.  This made me reflect on a design for a Solar Dehydrator in a book called Solar Gardening by Leandre Poisson and Gretchen Vogel Poisson.  There are many topics in this book besides dehydrating and I’d encourage you to take a look.  However let’s focus on the Solar Dehydrator:

I really like the simplicity of this dehydrator and decided to put the compost bin to use.  I thoroughly cleaned the compost container and added six (6) Borage plants:

Borage plants nestled in the dehydrator (nestling is a pleasant word and I can only assume the plants do not consider this “pleasant” at all)

Dehydrated leaves bear the color of the parent plant while the naturally decaying leaves turn brown (see below)

I wasn’t really pleased by the lack of temperature in the dehydrator and decided to plug the holes:

Come back as I’ll share more findings as the plants dry!
