Calendula Seeds: A Where’s Waldo Version Of The Plant World

Crack open a Calendula head and what do you find?  More structures to crack open!  Let’s take a typical Calendula head and the Outer and Inner Seeds:

Now let’s deconstruct this head, separating the Inner and Outer Seeds.  And then finally crack open these structures and inside we find True Seeds:

Interestingly we find discussion on tossing the Outer Seeds (at 50 second mark):

That can be a real shame when we look at the volume of seeds, both Inner and Outer.  On a typical seed harvest we might find the below.  Seemingly half of the volume are due to Outer Seeds.

Keep those plants and seed pods coming!  Double check the structures by cutting them open.  And do not trust what the Internet has to say 🙂
